CHIN AUGMENTATION
Everyone desires to have a strong jaw line with a good definition. Ill-defined chin results due to hereditary, weight fluctuations, ageing or traumatic.
- Chin augmentation is a cosmetic procedure to enhance the chin projection surgically or non-surgically.
- Ideal candidate is a healthy adult with realistic expectations having retruded chin (micrognathia) desiring to have a good chin projection to attain facial harmony.
- Can be done under general or local anesthesia.
- It is a short procedure of less than an hour.
- Nonsurgical chin augmentation has no downtime and can be done with or without application of a numbing cream. Soft tissue fillers of hyaluronic acid are injected to project the chin. They are available in pre-filled syringes. Results are temporary, lasting for nine months to a year, depending on the fillers used.
- Surgical chin augmentation is done using chin implants made of silicone or polyethylene (high density and porous) (Medpore) or expanded polytetrafluorethylene (Gore-Tex).
- Incision can be placed under the chin externally or inside the oral cavity.
- Recovery phase is smooth. Soft diet is to be followed for a week. If surgically augmented, can be back to work in 3 to 5 days. Most of the swelling and bruising decreases in 2 to 3 weeks.
- Avoid contact sports for 6 weeks.
